Alan Blake Conley - theater composer, lyricist

ALAN BLAKE CONLEY is a composer and lyricist native to Tampa, FL where his parents named him Alan, but only ever called him “Blake”. He was afforded great opportunities to pursue every type of musical experience – from marching band to a rock and roll. After living in Fargo, ND, Blake moved back to Tampa to thaw and to continue to pursue music and theater endeavors.

Blake partnered with Craig Sobel (book) on a family oriented production company, Double Click Drama, creating original musicals for family audiences. Together they have written Understudies, Up With School,Relative Talent, and are currently developing Not Another Poe Show. Relative Talent, a movie musical produced under Double Click Drama, was released 2016.

Blake also contributed music to Full. The Musical alongside Katie Berger(book/lyrics/music). The show has been performed at Jobsite Theater in Tampa, Howard W. Blake School of the Arts and was part of the New York Fringe Festival.

In January 2014, Blake published a book titled Secrets Your Accompanist WANTS You to Know that addresses working with a live accompanist in a theater audition.

Before working as a freelance musician and composer, Blake spent 11 years teaching at Howard W. Blake School of the Arts in Tampa where he taught Voice, Piano, and technical theater. His theatrical music direction credits include RENT, Bat Boy, Jane Eyre, Curtains, Company, and Sweet Charity among others.

Blake holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Concordia College, Moorhead where he studied with René Clausen and was the recipient of the Paul J. Christiansen Choral Award. He received a Masters of Music in Choral Conducting at the University of South Florida where he studied under Robert Summer and Richard Zielinski and served as the assistant conductor to the USF Chamber Singers.

When he is not working on musical endeavors he enjoys building cars and entertaining conspiracy theories. He lives in Tampa, FL with his wife, Heather, their two children, a dog and a cat.
