Understudies, the musical was commissioned by Corbett Preparatory School of IDS in Tampa, Florida in the spring of 2014. This original piece was specifically written with a middle school or high school performer in mind, from the dialogue to the music to the sensibility of the show. The show strikes a balance between humor and sentimentality, tackling serious issues like self doubt and fitting into the crowd, while not being preachy nor overly simplistic. Understudies the musical is light enough to be family friendly but not trite or cliché.
